Profile Description

Dr Jacob John (Associate Professor) is a Specialist in Prosthodontics. He holds a full time academic position in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. He graduated as a Dental Surgeon from the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, India in 1994 and subsequently qualified as a Prosthodontist from the Kuvempu University, India in 1997. As part of his academic career, Dr Jacob has been actively involved in the field of research, collaborating with fellow researchers both within Malaysia and globally. His main research interest lies in the field of Prosthodontics, Geriatric Dentistry and Dental Education. He has so far supervised more than 10 students at Masters and PhD level. He has published over 30 papers in peer reviewed, international journals and contributed chapters in 4 textbooks.

He has also presented his work at international conferences in Australia, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mauritius, the Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, Taiwan, the UAE and USA. Dr Jacob had served as a Lecturer in the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University and as a Dental Officer in the Ministry of Health, Malaysia before joining as an academic at the University of Malaya in 2009. He is a Life Member of the Indian Prosthodontic Society, founding Secretary of the Malaysia Association for Prosthodontics and currently the Honorary Secretary of the Asian Academy of Prosthodontics. He is also a member of the International Association for Disability and Oral Health since 2011 and works very closely with the Special Olympics Malaysia in providing oral health education and care for the intellectually disabled community. In addition, he is an Honorary Advisory Board Member of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Pondicherry, India since 2019, and member of the Council for Prosthodontic Research of the Indian Prosthodontic Society since 2018.

He is member of the International Association for Disability and Oral Health since 2011. Dr Jacob works very closely with the Special Olympics Malaysia, in its Healthy Athletes program, as an Clinical Director for Special Smiles in providing oral health education and care for the intellectually disabled community.
